With a spark of purpose and a shared vision, a group of young Igbanke professionals gathered at the office of Belteco Engineering Limited in Yaba, Lagos, to chart a new path for their community. United by a common goal—to leverage their positions in Nigerian society for the benefit of Igbanke—they dreamt of collective action and a legacy of development. It was in this spirit that the Committee of Igbanke Professionals (CIP) was born.

Early meetings were held at the Belteco office before being moved to Laparais Garden in Maryland, Lagos. The founding President was the late Edobor Agbonifo. Since then, the Association has been led by several distinguished individuals, including Hon. Mike Nmorka, Mr. Peter Ngeken, Mr. Emmanuel Akwe, Barr. Clement Ugbekile, and Engr. Arthur Usiagwu, until it was formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on September 2, 2010.

Upon registration, the name was officially changed from the Committee of Igbanke Professionals (CIP) to the Association of Igbanke Professionals (AIP). The following individuals were named as trustees:
Mr. Jacob Erhabor, Hon. Mike Nmorka, Mr. Emmanuel Akwe, Engr. Benson Usiagwu, Mr. Peter Ngbeken, Pastor Nash Emefiele, Barr. Clement Ugbekile, Engr. Arthur Usiagwu and Engr. Peter Ibogbe

Today, the Association is led by , Mr. Stephen Okwuchukwuka under whose leadership AIP continues to thrive.
